KAWASOTI, JUL 17 - At least eight people have been killed leaving ten other injured, in a road accident that occurred near Bishwakarma Baba temple at Dumkibas-5, Daunne in Nawalparasi district on Friday.
The accident occurred when a passenger bus, Na 4 Kha 5143, en route to Dang from Kathmandu collided head-on with a truck with Indian registration number, UP 32 DN 854, which was coming from an opposite direction along the Mahendra highway at 8:40 am this morning.
Six died on the spot while two succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital. The death toll is likely to rise, as many more are believed to have been injured, DSP at the Area Police Office in Kawasoti Parsuram Tiwari said.
The injured are receiving medical attention at the local hospital and hospitals in Bharatpur and Butwal.
According to DSP Nal Prasad Upadhayay of the District Police Office, the identity of the passengers and other details of the accident are not yet known. Rescue work is still underway, police said. However, the security personnel involved in the rescue work are facing difficulties because of the uphill terrain of the accident site.
