KATHMANDU, JUN 24 - Bhaktapur has achieved the highest pass rate in this year’s School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinations with 87.71 percent students from the district passing the tenth grade national board test. Bhaktapur District Education Office had set a target to achieve 88 percent pass rate this year, according to Rama Kanta Sharma, the district education officer. Out of 5,309 examinees from the district, 4,658 secured pass marks.
With one of the least number of students (116) sitting for the SLC test, Mustang district secured second highest pass rate with 86.56 percent.
Lalitpur district came close third with 86.32 percent students passing the test whileKathmandu came fourth with 85.9 percent, according to the Office of the Controller of Examinations.
Kathmandu district had the highest number of SLC exam candidates with 32,579 tenth graders sitting for the finals; 26,985 students passed. With 16.45 percent pass rate, Khotang district had the poorest overall test performance. Out of 3,653 examinees from the district, only 601 passed.
Examinations Controller Bishnu Bahadur Dware said the second lowest pass rate was in Dailekh district where out of 4,664 students taking the exams, only 934 got through.
Salyan and Saptari districts also did not fare well this year with 20.68 percent and 21.38 percent pass rates.
According to Dware, among around 9,400 schools that had participated in the SLC exams, two percent (229 schools) got nil results, meaning not a single student from these schools passed the test. Twenty six of these schools are private-run; of them, seven are from insideKathmandu Valley. Last year the number of schools with nil results was 331.
