KATHMANDU, JUN 23 - Dismayed with the Supreme Court's interim order to halt constitution writing process and President Ram Baran Yadav’s recent activities, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday warned both the institutions to stay away from politics.
Oli, who returned from Bangkong after a follow-up health care, argued that the recent order of apex court halting the constitution writing process was an ‘objectionable move’.
“The court’s order is an objectionable move. It is the duty of Constituent Assembly to write constitution, not any other bodies,” Oli told reporters at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu upon his arrival from Bangkok.
In a different context, Oli also expressed his dissatisfaction over President Ram Baran Yadav’s statement in response to the court order. “The post of president is a ceremonial one, perhaps he is also aware about this,” said Oli, suggesting the President Yadav to stay away from politics.
President Yadav has been expressing his dissatisfaction over the 16-point pact signed by four major political parties in which they had agreed to federate the country eight provinces and promulgate the new constitution at the earliest.
The political parties have also reached an understanding to share the key positions namely president, vice-president, prime minister, speaker and deputy speaker among major parties to form a national consensus government including all major parties.
In his meetings with the senior leaders of major parties and Speaker Subas Nembang, President Yadav had reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction over agreement reached among parties.
Yadav, who was elected as president in 2008 for two years is holding office till the date with the protraction of constitution writing process due to differences among political parties.
When asked about the fate of constitution writing in the wake of apex court order, Oli said the constitution writing process would not be halted despite court order.
