KATHMANDU, JUN 18 -
India has decided to hold 12th South Asian Games ( SAG ) at Guwahati and Shillong.
According to Indian Media Reports, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) General Secretary Rajiv Mehata said that the Indian Prime Minister Office has given approval to hold the multi-sporting regional event at Guwahati and Shillong in between November 2015 to January 2016.
According to Mehata, the exact date and number of games will be decided through a Guwahati meeting on June 28. The proposed event will lasts for 12 days. The 11th SAG held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2010 constituted 23 games.
The 12th SAG was given to India in 2012. However, it could not conduct the event due to general election.
The cost for organising the event is estimated to be around 600-700 million Indian rupees. It is said 90 percent of the cost will be borne by sports ministry.
Around 2,500 players from eight SAARC nations are expected to participate in the event.
