KATHMANDU, JUN 23 - The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Tuesday extended the contract of national cricket coach Pubudu Dassanayake for six months. Coach Dassanayake signed the contract paper today, according to which he will continue to serve as the national cricket team’s coach till December 31.
Dassanayake’s tenure was ending on July 15. He signed the contract at a ceremony held to bid farewell to the national cricket team that is set to head for UK and other countries, to play the world cup qualifier match.
Ministry of Youth and Sports had been providing remuneration to Dassanayake last year. But his pay for the extended period would be borne by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). CAN will provide his remuneration from Asian Cricket Council fund, it is learnt.
Nepal got hold of Division 2 status under the direction of Dassanayake. Sri Lankan-born Canadian Dassanayake is coaching Nepali national cricket team since August 2011.
He had signed the previous contract on September 1, 2014. Dassanayake is drawing a monthly salary of $8,000, apart from an additional Rs 200,000 each month for his general expenses.
