KATHMANDU, JUN 19 - Students from the Institute of Medicine (IoM) have expressed solidarity to the protest launched by the students of Janaki Medical College (JMC) which has not run any classes for the last nine months due to share-related dispute at the management level.
The members of IoM’s Nepal Medical Students Society (NMSS) on Thursday said that they fully support the cause of the JMC students who have been staging protest at the IoM and the Ministry of Health and Population for the last 10 days, demanding resumption of the classes. Raj Jha, acting president of NMSS, said they will press the concerned authorities to urgently look into the matter and come up with a solution.
If the JMC cannot resume the classes, its students have demanded that they be transferred to other medical schools so that they could complete their studies.
Over 50 students from the JMC are currently in Kathmandu to draw the attention of the Ministry of Education, the IoM and the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) regarding the closure of their classes.
The JMC is considered one of the worst medical schools in the country that has repeatedly failed to comply with basic standards set by the
NMC.
