KATHMANDU, JUN 18 - The civil servants working in various government offices across the country have donated Rs 360 million to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Rescue and Relief Fund in a bid to support the quake-victims.
Minister for General Administration Mr Lalbabu Pandit, on the behalf of civil servants, handed over the amount to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala today at the official residence of the latter.
Lauding the contribution of the government officials towards the social cause, PM Koirala assured that the financial aid will be best utilized for the relief distribution and resettlement of the quake-hit persons.
A meeting of secretaries held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Leelamani Poudyal on April 28, had decided to provide salary equivalent to 15 days’ salary of the first class officers to the Fund while 10 days’ salary of the Gazetted First Class employees and five days’ salary of the other-level staffs.
In today's financial aid handover programme, PM Koirala, in the presence of Minister for Finance Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, Chief Secretary Leelamani Poudyal and the Secretaries of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, directed the authorities concerned to look into the quality of the zinc sheets being distributed to the quake-hit persons.

On the occasion, Minister Pandit brought to the knowledge of the PM that the zinc sheets had not yet reached to some quake-hit places and the compensation amount, Rs 15000, announced by the government to the quake-hit, should be provided at the earliest.
Chief Secretary Poudyal shared that amount was collected from many civil servants who themselves were hit hard by the quake. For them, according to the Chief Secretary, a special support will be provided. RSS
