KATHMANDU, - The CPN- UMLStanding Committee meeting held on Saturday termed the exception taken by the four political parties over the Supreme Court order issued against the 16-point agreement as appropriate one.
The SC on Friday issued an interim order staying the implementation of the 16-point agreement reached among the political parties on June 8.
The meeting held at the official residence of party's acting Chair and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam, concluded that the SC order strangled the special rights of the sovereign Constituent Assembly, created obstructions over the constitution writing process that had arrived at the final stage after eight years of ups and downs. The SC order also promoted instability and chaos, the meeting said.
In the meeting, party officials said no authority could challenge the fact that the constitution writing lied within the jurisdiction of the CA. The meeting also appealed to the CA for speeding up the process of drafting the constitution, while calling for promulgation of the new constitution with quickened pace.
The party also drew the attention of all concerned towards the inappropriateness of playing a controversial role by barging into someone else's jurisdiction in violation of the principle of separation of power rather than maintaining restraint, and extending supportive and creative role for constitution writing and rebuilding.
The meeting was also univocal that it would be suitable for issuing an ordinance in connection to rebuilding in the aftermath of the earthquake and on the eve of the start of budget session in the parliament.
The party officials also drew the attention of the government to make a presentation at the International Conference on Nepal's Reconstruction slated for June 25 so as to reflect Nepal's commitment to rebuilding and make preparations efficient, influential and dignified. RSS
