KATHMANDU, JUN 23 - The Kantipur Media Group (KMG) handed over Rs 44.31 million collected to contribute to the relief and rehabilitation of the earthquake -affected people through the Kantipur National Crisis Assistance Fund, to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund on Tuesday.
Chairman and Managing Director of KMG Kailash Sirohiya handed over the cheque to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, today, amid a programme organised at PM residence in Baluwatar.
The Kantipur Media Group’s non-profit charitable organisation had established the fund in the wake of the Great Earthquake to support earthquake survivors. As many as 1,755 individuals and organisations contributed money to the fund. The Nepali community in the Gulf, Malaysia and other countries also chipped in significant amounts.
“We deposited Rs 1 million and appealed others to contribute to the fund,” said KMG Chairman Sirohiya during the handing over of the fund, “We have collected funds ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 500,000.”
During the occasion, PM Koirala thanked KMG, Kantipur Foundation and Century Bank among other contributors. He further assured that the government was vigilant towards any misuse of relief fund.
Century Bank, Asia News Network, PEA Association, Kathmandu Fun Valley, Sarbottam Cement, NIST Foundation, Business Universal Development Bank, International Development Bank and Sunrise Bank were associated with the fund as partners. The foundation had made them partners in philanthropy for their contribution of more than Rs1 million.
Minister for Information and Communication Minendra Rijal, Editor-in-Chief of Kantipur daily, Sudhir Sharma and Editor-in-Chief of The Kathmandu Post, Akhilesh Upadhayay including officials of Century Bank and KMG were present during the handover programme.
